she came from the heartland to NYC.
A milkmaid, a skeptic,

She had pathological energy and very bad knees.
Nights she would wander in Long Island City
with only a dog-eared copy
of Aristotle's 'Art of Rhetoric' to her name,
which was really just a nimble disguise for her book-length bundle
of Penthouse back issues circa 1997.
And honestly, that was just a protective covering
for her stash of Nilla wafers.
